Reflection and Rest
We’re still celebrating the amazing news from last week that I’m cancer-free! My oncologist, Dr. Suresh, did follow up this week to recommend that I see a GI doctor for a second opinion on my dilated bile duct. She reassured me that she’s not concerned about cancer (phew!), but it is an unusual finding and she wants to ensure nothing is being overlooked. She’s being thorough and covering all the bases, which of course we appreciate. So, I have an appointment with the GI doctor on December 5, and more lab work scheduled for December 16 to recheck my liver and make sure it’s stabilizing. We’re realizing that these periodic doctor visits, lab tests, and scans will likely be part of our lives moving forward. With or without cancer, we are constantly reminded of our need for Jesus. Only he knows the path ahead and can provide everything we need for each step!
On another note, we’ve recently taken some time to reflect on where we’ve come from through a project we participated in back in July. We had the privilege of sharing part of our cancer journey through a video interview for the Christian Counseling and Educational Foundation (CCEF). This interview was shown at their recent 2024 National Conference on Rest. The video was filmed at our home during the early stages of my second round of chemo—the particularly grueling phase of treatment. Looking back, I’m so grateful we captured that moment when I still had a little energy (and even a few eyelashes!). Watching it now is both humbling and a powerful reminder of how much the Lord has carried us through this year. It’s a true gift to be on the other side of that mountain!
Earlier this year, in March, I also had the honor of recording the voiceover for CCEF’s conference promotional teaser—just as I was beginning chemo. You can watch both videos at the links above (under each picture).
For thus said the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel, “In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.” —Isaiah 30:15
Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. —Matthew 11:29
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” — Psalm 91:1-2
