“All in the Rear View”
Yesterday was a day we won’t soon forget. We left home around 10:30 AM to head to Pittsburgh for “family weekend” with Maddie at Pitt, hopeful but braced for the news we’d waited nearly a year to hear. Our hearts were pounding as we saw that the test results for both the bone scan and MRI were in, but we decided to wait for the doctor to call before looking. We drove in nervous anticipation…would we finally get to breathe easier, or would the journey through this cancer battle continue?
Just before Noon, Meghan, our oncology Nurse Practitioner called, and her first words were, “I get to share the good news with you that there is no metastatic disease!” She explained that the bone scan “blip” on my left hip was simply a “boney island” – a harmless, normal variation in bone structure. The MRI confirmed a benign cyst on my right kidney that needs no further follow-up, and what we feared might be a bile duct issue was actually just my unique anatomy. No issues. No further action needed. As Meghan celebrated with us she said, “It’s all in the rear view!”
We hung up the phone and simply sobbed for joy. We thanked the Lord for his mercy, and let out all the worry, fear, and uncertainty that had weighed on us for so long.
Today, we’re experiencing a level of relaxation that we receive as a true gift. We’re enjoying time with our girl, meeting her friends, attending basketball games, getting ice cream in the dining hall, exploring campus and quaint parts of the city… simply living life in a way we haven’t in a year. No looming treatments, no more test results. Wow. It's still sinking in.
Thank you, thank you for praying for these results and for so many needs this year! We will write more later, but wanted to briefly share the good news!
